It is now well over a century since Gifford (1916) and Rivers (1914) invoked certain second marriages as an explanation for Crow-Omaha (C-O) terminologies, even further from Josef Kohler’s initial attempt (1897; translated 1975) to marshal such the Omaha themselves. Revisiting the homogenization of dammed rivers in the southeastern US

For some time, ecologists have attempted to make generalizations concerning how disturbances influence natural ecosystems, especially river systems. The existing literature suggests that dams homogenize the hydrologic variability of rivers. However, this might insinuate that dams affect river systems similarly despite a large gradient in natural hydrologic character. In order to evaluate patter...

The surface of the immunoglobulin structure plays a multifunctional role within the immune network. The variable structures of antibodies express a large repertoire of idiotypic specificities (idiotopes) and are also responsible for the vast diversity of different binding sites (paratopes). Crystallographic analyses of antibodies have identified V regions that form a binding site or pocket for ...

Comparative phylogeography of two crow species: jungle crow Corvus macrorhynchos and carrion crow Corvus corone.

The jungle crow Corvus macrorhynchos Wagler, 1827, and the carrion crow Corvus corone L., 1758, are two closely related species with similar ecological requirements that occupy wide distribution ranges in the Palearctic. We studied patterns of their genetic variation by using sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene. Corvus macrorhynchos demonstrates a low level of variation and differe...
